TikTok gained massive recognition during the Covid-19 pandemic, and as a result, the number of users has grown over time. According to the study by Zhou & Lee (2021), there are influencing factors that affect the flow and addiction of perceived users of Tiktok. Tiktok, being an SFV platform, it is bound to expand the market in the middle era between social media and OTT. Due to the popularity of Tiktok, the numbers have been on the rise since its discovery, and the research depicts that the application comes with a severe addiction to the users. When it comes to Tiktok addiction, it has been divided into interpersonal relationships and attachment to services, and the path of attachment has been connected to the flow and addiction. However, the study expounds on different approaches that have been used to come up with the conclusion. Through the use of theoretical and practical research, it is evident that the platform has brought about self-exposure and attachment, which has made the users addicted to the platform and thus affected their social users. In the future, it is projected that cases of Tiktok addiction will be on the rise, taking note of the rise of users and members registering on the platform in recent days.

The use of social media in the current world has been on the rise in modern-day society. However, with the internet in almost all countries, there have been cases of addiction, more so in adolescents and young adults. Compared to traditional addiction, internet addiction has been conceptualized as a behavioral addiction. Excessive use of social media has been linked to negative effects, and the user becomes fully addicted, thus becoming less productive. Behavioral addiction depicted as a result of social media consists of compulsive behavioral involvement, resulting in a lack of interest in other activities and becoming unsocial (D’Arienzo et al., 2019). Social media addiction has been shown to have a heavy linkage to instances of neuroticism, and in the end, anxiety and social relationships become weak, thus affecting the individual psychologically. In a nutshell, social media affects human psychology in an unpredicted way. Thus it becomes so hard to stay away, and in the long run, the individual loses touch with the normal life and economic viability. Again social media addiction results in attachments that are influential in individual day-to-day activities and thus affect the affection tie, and the individual develops distance between themselves and others.

In the last two years, social media addiction has been linked to the pandemic. For instance, during the pandemic, it is evident that individuals had few opportunities to socialize and thus opted to use of social media. However, the use of social media has its level of addiction based on the prevalence of smartphone and social medial applications. According to Marengo et al. (2022), adolescents have been affected by the issue of social media addiction from the use of different social media applications. Based on a study conducted on 765 Italian adolescents, it is evident that smartphones and social media applications such as WhatsApp and TikTok have adversely affected their social life. However, social media addiction came across different aspects and have affected individual differently, but the bottom line has been that the number of social media users is bound to rise in the near future. In summary, the research has shown that TikTok has been the most addictive application during the Covid-19 pandemic, surpassing the use of other applications with similar visual affordances.
